The Magic Kingdom was the first of the four Theme Parks in Disney World to open
and it still proves to be the most popular. It is the essence of all things
Disney where you can enjoy reliving your childhood or give your own children
memories they will never forget. Magic Kingdom is made up themed areas or
Islands, of which there are seven in total.
Mickey's Toontown Fair
Mickey’s Toontown Fair gives you the chance to meet up with the most famous
Disney characters; Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Mickey’s faithful companion
Pluto, Donald Duck and also Goofy.
This area is not so focused on rides; it is more about allowing you the chance
to see where your favourite characters live. You can walk through Mickey and
Minnie’s Houses and the children can have fun on Donald’s Boat and be very
hands on.
For those who love the thrill of the rides there is the Barnstormer roller
coaster set on Goofy’s Wiseacres Farm, a great thrill for the less experienced
rider.
Tomorrow Land
Tomorrow Land is a more futuristic area with rides such as the Buzz Lightyear
Space Ranger Spinner where you get to shot Buzz’s enemies or Space Mountain the
roller coaster set in the dark giving the effect that you are going much faster
than you are.
Other rides in the area are Astro Orbiter, the Extra Terrestrial Alien
Encounter and Tomorrow Land Speedway. There are also the animatronics shows
Timekeeper and Disney World Carousel of Progress.
Liberty Square
Liberty Square is more of an adult orientated area with a historical theme.
There is the Hall of Presidents featuring animatronics a boat ride on the
Liberty Bell steam ship and a trip through the Haunted Mansion full of ghostly
special effects.
Frontierland
Frontierland offers a taste of the old west featuring shows such as the
Diamond Horseshoe Saloon Revue and Medicine Show with a whole array of
entertainment or there is an animatronics show called the Country Bear
Jamboree.
Rides found in this area are the Big Thunder Mountain Railway a very bumpy ride
but very popular, there is also the fast and exciting log flume ride Splash
Mountain. You can also try your luck at the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade or the
Kids can expend some energy on Tom Sawyer Island.
Fantasyland
Fantasyland this is the place to go to for the Disney movie buffs. You can take
a turn on a traditional carousel Cinderella’s Golden Carousel to be precise.
The children can enjoy a ride with Dumbo the Flying Elephant, take a spin in a
tea cup at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Fly to Neverland with Peter Pan, relive
the story of Snow White or take a tour through the Winnie the Pooh’s Hundred
Acre Wood. To top this off sit back and watch the Legend of the Lion King
featuring all the stars of the film.
New in 2003 is Mickey's Philharmagic Orchestra, a wonderful must see 4D show.
Adventure Island
Adventure Island is in a jungle setting and features a short show in the
Enchanted Tiki Room, a boat trip through the world of the Pirates of the
Caribbean, and fun for the children in the Swiss Family Tree House. Or you can
just simply enjoy the Jungle atmosphere.
Other Entertainment at the Magic Kingdom
Another must see is the Disney Magical Moments Parade starting in Main Street
USA and finishing in Frontierland. There is also an evening parade called
Spectromagic which features at the park in the peak season. Not to be
missed is the Fantasy in the Sky Firework display which takes place just
before the park closes.
